Itinerary

Our 10-day Moroccan adventure kicks off with your pickup from Casablanca's airport or your lodging. This vibrant city is Morocco's economic heart and its largest metropolis. Our initial destination is the Hassan II Mosque, a stunning architectural marvel and the nation's largest. It graces the western coastline, positioned on a bluff offering breathtaking views of the Atlantic. Following our visit, you'll have leisure time to enjoy lunch. Subsequently, we'll explore the city further, with a focus on the spectacular Casablanca Corniche. We will spend the night at a hotel.

We'll begin our day with breakfast, followed by a scenic drive, tracing the coast towards Rabat. This city stands as a testament to Morocco's rich history, holding its position as the nation's present-day capital. Our exploration includes key sites: The Hassan Tower, the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, and concluding with the Kasbah of the Udayas. Lunch will be at your leisure. Later, we'll journey north, our route leading us through Ouazzane, to the captivating Blue City of Chefchaouen, nestled within the Rif Mountains. Chefchaouen is celebrated for its striking architecture, characterized by its predominantly blue and white color scheme that adorns its buildings and labyrinthine alleyways. We will stay overnight at a hotel there.

Following our morning meal, you're free to explore the captivating lanes of Chefchaouen, the enchanting "Blue Pearl" of Morocco. We will then journey to the remarkable Roman ruins of Volubilis. This site, in excellent condition, has been granted UNESCO World Heritage status. You will discover exquisite mosaics that pepper the area, alongside ancient columns and stunning archways.

After our time amidst the ruins, a short 30km drive will bring us to Meknes. This city, once the Ismaili capital, is another of Morocco's imperial cities. While there, we'll visit key landmarks: Bab Al-Mansour gate, the Sahrij Souani basin, the Royal stables, the granary, and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail.

Finally, we will make our way to Fes. We will spend the night in a traditional Riad.

Following our morning meal, a local expert will lead us on a journey to discover the city's prominent features. Fes holds status as a royal city, and also acts as the core for cultural and religious life within Morocco.

Our adventure commences with a look at the Royal Palace's gateway. Afterward, we'll traverse the remarkably preserved medieval Medina, an area recognized by UNESCO for its historical significance. We will access the old Medina by way of the Blue Gate, or Bab Boujloud. Inside, we'll visit the Madrasa Bouanania, the Najjarine fountain, and the tanneries. We'll end this section of the day with a view of the Quaraouin mosque and its university, a landmark acknowledged as the oldest globally. We'll then move out of the Medina to explore the Jewish Quarter, known locally as "the Mellah". When the afternoon comes, we will travel to an old fortress which is positioned so we can gaze at the Medina and Fes from above. After that we will get back to the Riad.

Following a satisfying breakfast, our journey south commences, passing through Imouzzer en route to Ifrane. This city is renowned for its chilly temperatures, snowy conditions, and architecture reminiscent of the Alps. Hence, it is rightly nicknamed the Switzerland of Morocco. Subsequently, the excursion proceeds towards the cedar forest, home to Barbary macaques. Guests are encouraged to interact with the monkeys, offering them treats while exploring the woodland. We then advance to Midelt, providing a chance for a leisurely lunch. Continuing onward, our route leads us to Merzouga via the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass, tracing the scenic Ziz Valley. We'll pause periodically, affording opportunities to absorb the sweeping vistas.

Upon reaching the Sahara Desert of Merzouga in the afternoon, the experience transitions. Participants will then ride camels, venturing into the sandy expanse. A pause is scheduled atop a towering dune to take in the captivating sunset. The destination is the desert camp. The camp artfully marries the simplicity of traditional nomad dwellings with the comforts of a modern hotel. There, under the star-studded sky, you can relish the rhythms of Berber drums, and dance near a crackling campfire. Dinner will be served, and overnight accommodation provided within the camp.

The day's magic starts early, with a sunrise spectacle in the heart of the desert - a must-see! After your breakfast at the camp, you'll be returning to Merzouga either by a sturdy 4x4 or a camel trek across the stunning sand dunes (ATVs are available at additional expense). This is the day to delve into the Merzouga region; the sixth of your ten-day Moroccan exploration is entirely devoted to this unique location. It is filled with remarkable sites: sand dunes, serene wild lakes, historic mines, fossil-rich terrains, and vibrant oases which invite unforgettable outdoor pursuits.

Initially, we'll set out from Merzouga for an off-road adventure, exploring a historic eyeliner mine. We then proceed to a visit with nomadic families; a chance to understand their lifestyle, shelter in the handmade tents, and share a cup of Berber tea. The next stop will be the village of Khamlia, the heart of the Gnawa music and dancing tradition. The villagers here trace their ancestry back to sub-Saharan African nations, including Mali, Sudan, and Niger. You'll enjoy free time for lunch at a local restaurant. Later, a refreshing walk awaits you in a palm oasis: the perfect combination of old and new desert allure.

Dinner and an overnight stay will be at a comfortable hotel.

Our journey continues after a morning meal. We depart the desert area and head toward Rissani, the former Tafilalet capital. This town holds onto its historical importance as a trading hub; its souk, or marketplace, flourishes, particularly during the Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday markets.

Following our visit to the bustling Rissani Souk, we progress to Erfoud. There, a workshop dedicated to fossilized marble will be visited. Subsequent to this, the route navigates the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, our path culminating at Todra Gorges. Nature's artistry is revealed as the Todra River’s path carved a profound canyon into the mountains, rendering this locale perfect for climbing activities. Personal exploration of the gorges provides a chance to fully admire the scenic grandeur. We then have time for a restaurant-based lunch. Our path advances to the Dades Valley, going through Boumalne Dades. The iconic "monkey fingers" rock formation will feature a planned stop, coupled with an additional pause on an elevated spot, providing expansive views of the Dades Valley. The day wraps up with an overnight hotel stay and evening meal.

We will begin this day's adventure after a refreshing breakfast, and our journey towards Kalaa Magouna, where the renowned Rose Valley lies. Annually, during May, the area celebrates its Rose Festival, a vibrant event showcasing local rose-based products for visitors. Next, our route will take us through the captivating Skoura palm groves. Later in the day, we will arrive in Ouarzazate, often hailed as the gateway to the desert. We are scheduled to visit the film studios of Ouarzazate, where many iconic movies have been filmed.

Our exploration continues with a visit to the majestic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This fortified village, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, holds significant historical importance and has been the backdrop for several blockbuster films such as Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy, in addition to television series like Game of Thrones. After our visit to Ait Ben Haddou, we'll begin our journey to Marrakech. The route will take us across the Tizi-N-Tichka pass and through the High Atlas Mountains. During the drive, we will make strategic stops for lunch and picture taking at points of interest. In the evening, we will check in to a Riad in Marrakech for an overnight stay.

Following a hearty morning meal, prepare for an immersive exploration of Marrakech's key attractions, expertly led by a knowledgeable local guide. This imperial city, one of Morocco's historical cornerstones, holds countless wonders. We'll delve into places like the breathtaking Bahia Palace, the serene Saadian Tombs, and the historic Ben Youssef Madrasa, an architectural marvel. We'll also experience the vibrant energy of the country's most extensive traditional souk.

Afterward, enjoy a leisurely lunch break near the bustling Jemaa el-Fna square, where you can savor the local atmosphere. The afternoon will feature visits to the majestic Koutoubia Mosque, the largest in Marrakech, and the enchanting Majorelle Garden. Concluding the day, a transfer will be arranged to take you back to your lodging. You are welcome to freely explore the captivating Jemaa el-Fna square at your own pace.

Our final day sees us enjoying a brief exploration of Marrakech, the famed "red city." After this, we'll commence the journey northward towards Casablanca, making brief pauses along the route to appreciate scenic viewpoints. We will then proceed directly to the Casablanca airport, where your tour concludes.
