Overview: 5 Days in Morocco From Casablanca
A five-day Moroccan adventure from Casablanca awaits. Over the course of this four-night, five-day journey, you’ll uncover the captivating essence of Morocco. We’ll kick things off in Casablanca, exploring its highlights before venturing to the Roman ruins of Volubilis and the historic city of Meknes, once the capital under the Ismaili dynasty. Fes, the cultural heart of Morocco, is also on the agenda. Then, our path veers south, with a visit to Ifrane, often referred to as the “Switzerland of Morocco,” alongside a stop at the iconic cedar forests. Midelt, the Ziz Valley, Rissani’s traditional market, and Erfoud, famed for its fossils, are also incorporated into the itinerary.
The tour extends into the mesmerizing Merzouga Sahara Desert. Here, you’ll experience a camel trek, a luxurious overnight stay in a desert camp nestled amidst the dunes, and the unparalleled beauty of both sunrise and sunset over the Sahara. Following this desert experience, we’ll explore the breathtaking Todra and Dades Gorges, and the globally-renowned Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. Finally, the route traverses the High Atlas Mountains, including the Tizi-n-Tichka pass, concluding in the vibrant city of Marrakech.
We will collect you from Casablanca's airport, port, or your hotel. Casablanca, as Morocco's largest city and its economic hub, is where our adventure begins. First, we'll explore the Hassan II Mosque, a monumental structure that stands as Morocco's biggest mosque, located on the city's western coastline, positioned spectacularly overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Free time for lunch will be allocated. Following lunch, we'll delve into the city's core, including a visit to the scenic Corniche of Casablanca. The day will conclude with an overnight stay at a comfortable hotel.
We set off after breakfast, departing Casablanca to see the ancient Roman remnants of Volubilis. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, this locale boasts impressively preserved architecture. Wander amongst the numerous mosaics, alongside ancient pillars and grand archways. After our tour, we’ll head towards Meknes (approx. 30 km drive), the former Ismaili capital and a historic imperial city. We will visit its notable attractions: Bab Al-Mansour, the Sahrij Souani basin, the Royal stables, the granary, and the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. The next destination on our itinerary is Fes, where we'll spend the night at a traditional Riad.
After breakfast, our journey south begins. We pass through Imouzzer, bound for Ifrane. Known as "Switzerland of Morocco", due to its chilly climate, heavy snowfalls, and the alpine-style homes. We'll then proceed to the cedar forests, the natural habitat of the Barbary macaques. Embrace the opportunity to feed the monkeys during your forest explorations. After that, we'll arrive in Midelt, with leisure time provided for lunch. Subsequently, the drive continues through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt pass and the Ziz valley, en route to Merzouga, with strategic stops for those panoramic views. We will arrive at the Merzouga Sahara in the afternoon, where we exchange the vehicle for camels. This camel ride will transport you into the heart of the desert's sand dunes. We’ll pause atop a high dune, perfect for enjoying the spectacular sunset. At day's end, we will arrive at our desert camp – an exquisite blend of traditional nomad tents and the luxuries you'd expect in a hotel. Delight in the Berber drums' rhythm and dance around a campfire beneath the breathtaking star-filled sky. We will have dinner and stay overnight at the camp.
The early morning's sunrise in the desert is something you shouldn't miss. After breakfast, we'll ride the camels back to Merzouga where our driver awaits. We then depart the desert for Rissani town, once the capital of Tafilalet. Rissani is still a major trading center for the region.
After taking in the Rissani souk, we will go to Erfoud where a fossilized marble workshop can be visited. After Erfoud, we'll traverse the Touroug and Tinjdad palm groves, finally reaching the Todra Gorges. The Todra River has carved out a grand canyon, which makes this destination an attractive one for climbers and adventurers. Explore the gorges' impressive landscape during your visit and appreciate its beauty. There will be some free time for lunch. Subsequently, we continue towards the Dades Valley through Boumalne Dades, with stopovers at the "monkey fingers" rock formation, with a scenic view of the Dades Valley. The day concludes with a hotel stay, inclusive of dinner.
We continue our trip by heading for Kalaa Magouna to explore the Rose Valley. A Rose Festival is celebrated every May with the local producers showcasing their rose-related merchandise. Then we journey via the Skoura palm groves and then to Ouarzazate. It is here that we will go to visit the studios where many movies have been filmed.
From there, we will head to the well-known Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This fortified village has gained UNESCO World Heritage status. The Kasbah has been utilized as a backdrop in a long list of films and TV series, namely “Gladiator", "Alexander", "The Mummy”, and "Game of Thrones" . The next and final destination will be Marrakech. We'll pass through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass and the High Atlas Mountains. Expect breaks for lunch and to snap photos at picturesque locations. Finally, we'll reach Marrakech, and transfer you to either the airport or your desired accommodations. The 5-day Morocco tour concludes here.
