The first 8 days from Marrakech itinerary to Fes and Chefchaouen, with a nice little detour into the Sahara desert. Prepare to be amazed by an overload of wonderful places over 8 days and 7 nights.
Past the beautiful High Atlas mountains is Tizi-N-Tichka pass, which offers some breathtaking views. Visit the fortified Ait-Ben-Haddou Kasbah and the city of Ouarzazate, famous for its film studios. Further, explore the Amridil Kasbah, the stunning Dades valley, and the spectacular Todra gorges.
Unforgettable would be the experience in the Merzouga Sahara desert, where you’ll be able to ride camels, witness the sun put in an unforgettable view over the desert horizon, and spend a magical night in the desert camp under the glorious starlit sky. This will also be complemented by the 4×4 tour in the Merzouga Sahara desert. Immerse yourself in local culture through a visit to the traditional Rissani market and Erfoud, known for its fossils.
The expedition goes on to Ifrane (or ‘Switzerland of Morocco’), and enters the cedar forest to see Barbary macaques in the wild. Opportunity will be given to experience Fes and Meknes, imperial cities of Morocco-rich in history. The Roman ruins of Volubilis and the famous blue city of Chefchaouen will be your final finds before ending up in Tangier.
The Best 8-day tour from Marrakech, adventure early the next morning with an early-morning pickup from the airport or Marrakech lodgings. After this, we will take a scenic drive through the beautiful High Atlas mountains and the Tizi-N-Tichka pass. There will be many stops for taking pictures and enjoying the beautiful views. Thereafter, we will get an opportunity to have a glimpse into the Telouat Kasbah. We continue our way to the famed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. Such kasbah is a UNESCO World Heritage fortified site. The nostalgic site also considers it as one of their fabulous shooting locations, such as the well-known movies Gladiator, Alexander, The Mummy, and the famous TV series Game Of Thrones. After we had been done with this Kasbah, Ouarzazate has just about had it. The place is well known as "The gate of the desert." Dinner and accommodation were arranged in a hotel.
After breakfast, our day in Ouarzazate begins. First, we will visit the Atlas Studios, a film center where various famous movies have been shot. Later, we shall visit the Taourirt Kasbah, an old mudbrick fortress, which is a fantastic example of one of Morocco's ancient Ksars. We will then move towards the east. Our next stop will be the Amridil Kasbah, set amidst the beautiful palm groves of Skoura, which will take us ahead to Kalaa Magouna, known for its Rose Valley. The place organizes a Rose Festival every May, which allows residents to display an array of rose-based products, including perfumes, rosewater, and oils to cosmetics. Finally, we will proceed to the Dades Valley via Boumalne Dades. There will be plenty of stops, especially at the odd "monkey fingers" rock formation and a viewpoint from where you can take in the entire Dades Valley. Dinner and an overnight stay at a Riad in Boumalne Dades will follow this splendid day.
After breakfast, we will move forward and onwards to the Todra Gorges. Here runs the Todra River, which has carved a stunning canyon in its course. A truly majestic gorge with cliffs of red stone towering above is right in place to invite you into the gorges and indulge yourself in their fantastic beauty. Our journey continues through lush palm groves gracing Touroug and Tinjdad. Once on road, we'll stop for some lunch. In the afternoon, we come to the Merzouga Sahara, the entry point towards the depths of the Desert. Here, we will ride camels for a trek on the wavering sands. Ahalt- it will facilitate us pitching up to a dune and waiting for an enthralling sunset. Thereafter, we will proceed to the luxury desert camp. There, under a countless sparkling sky, we will be thrilled with sounds emanating from Berber drums while we invite one another to dance around a crackling campfire. Then, dinner will be shared, followed by a night spent in this wonderful camp.
Desert sunrise viewing is non-negotiable; you must get up early. Afterward, breakfast will be relaxed. You will be taken back to Merzouga, either riding a camel or by 4x4, where your driver will be waiting. This part of your Moroccan desert trip is devoted to discovering Merzouga. This area is plentifully blessed with extraordinary sites like dunes, a wild lake, mines, fossil sites, and fantastic oases, all of which are blessed destinations for some outdoor activities.
The day begins in Merzouga with an off-road excursion to the old eyeliner mine, visiting nomadic families and experiencing their way of life on carpets under their tents. We'll drink Berber tea with them and share some of their customs. The next stop is Khamlia village to enjoy Gnaoua music and dance performances. The people here are of Sub-Saharan African origin, mainly from Mali, Sudan, and Niger. We will visit a restaurant for lunch. Afterward, the tour will walk under a grove of palm trees. A short drive will take us to the wild lake of Merzouga, which is also known as the flamingo lake. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
After having breakfast in the morning, we prepare to depart from the desert for Rissani, the erstwhile capital of Tafilalet. Rissani continues to qualify in terms of being an important commercial hub in the region, courtesy of its souk, which has high activity levels on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Afterwards, we will enjoy a paddle through the souk in Rissani before continuing our journey to Erfoud, where we will visit a workshop that specializes in fossil marble.
Then we will drive by the Ziz River and stop at one of the finest spots for the entire reality of the Ziz Valley; it will be your leisure time to have a credit lunch in Midelt. Our visit takes us to the cedar forests, known as the natural habitat of the Barbary Macaques. Here, you will find time to walk around, interact with, and feed the monkeys. When exiting the forest, we will head towards Ifrane, which is known for its low temperatures, snowfall, and beautiful architecture that has earned it the nickname "Switzerland of Morocco." The day will end as you are transported to your hotel in Fes.
After breakfast, we shall pick you up from your Riad within Fes, and here begins a deep exploration of this hallowed imperial city, the cultural and spiritual heart of Morocco.
The driving tour commences today. The Royal Palace Gate is our first stop. Afterwards, we will pay a visit to "The Mellah," the old Jewish quarter. Get ready after that to head for great views from the Borj Sud fort, which opens up to the old Medina. We will then finish this round off by visiting the Ceramic Village & School, taking a look at how traditional artisans work.
Afterwards, we will have a walking tour. Enter the medieval Medina, where history comes alive, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is hailed as one if not the best-preserved historical towns in the Arab world. You will then be accompanied by a knowledgeable local guide through other prominent sites such as Al Attarine madrasa, the university and mosque of Al Quaraouiyine (which is considered to be the oldest continuing university in the world), and the downright vividly colored Chouara tanneries, where leather is dyed using the oldest methods known.
After this exquisite journey through history, you will be brought back to your riad, where you can relax.
After breakfast, we'll start our journey to Meknes, the former capital of the Ismailis and one of the foremost imperial cities. The tour includes stops at Bab Al-Mansour, the basin of Sahrij Souani, the Royal stables, the granary, and the mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. We'll stop for lunch. From Meknes, we will depart for Volubilis, some thirty kilometers away, to enjoy the ancient Roman ruins. This site is strikingly well preserved and, thus, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Expect to see beautiful mosaics, fragments of ancient columns, and the like dotting the landscape.
After touring the ruins, we head northward through Ouazzane to Chefchaouen in the Rif Mountains. With its blue-washed buildings and blue lanes and alleys laid by the architect, Chefchaouen is often called the "Blue City". Overnight in a hotel.
After breakfast, depending on the time of your departure, you might have some free time. You can use this to wander and explore the delightful alleys of the blue city. After this, we'll journey through the Rif Mountains towards Tangier, from where we will take you to the airport. This does signify the end of your 8-day Morocco tour.
