Take a once-in-a-lifetime, 3-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga Desert, departing from Marrakech, in the direction of Merzouga. This extremely well-prepared two-night tour offers a short yet intensive and comprehensive foray worthy of the big-name highlights of the area.
Your tour takes you to the ancient Ait-Ben-Haddou Kasbah, the lively city of Ouarzazate, and the magnificent geological scenery of the Dades and Todra Gorges. Have your breath taken away as you enter the magnificence of the Merzouga Sahara Desert, the green Draa Valley, and the charming slate of Berber villages.
Then, take your unbeaten breath away with an excellent view of the High Atlas mountains. Camel trek into the Sahara through the quintessential desert experience, soaking in the surreal sunset and sunrise view of the dunes. And later you drive back to Marrakech in the end.
The 3-day Tour to Merzouga desert begins with an early morning pickup from your chosen airport or hotel in Marrakech. Then, the journey resumes through the majestic High Atlas mountains, crossing the Tizi-N-Tichka pass, with many stops to enjoy the fantastic views and beautiful landscapes. Now it's traveling to the fabulous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is usually a film darling; if you have seen Gladiator, Alexander, or The Mummy, and the famous TV series Game of Thrones, you are very well aware of this fortified village. Then we head to Ouarzazate: "The gate of the desert." After all this, there is going to be some free time for lunch, and we will continue driving toward the Rose Valley through the extensive Skoura palm grove. The final destination will be Boumalne Dades, where we will spend the night.
The second day of our desert excursion in Morocco sees us traveling through Dades Valley. Driving stops to allow for one panoramic view where the Dades Gorges can be seen in all their breathtaking beauty; from here, we carry on to the Todra Gorges, a magnificent canyon sculpted by the Todra River as it carved its way through the mountains, leaving behind towering reddish cliff sides. You may wander around the gorges at leisure, soaking in the beauty and environment of the place. The palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad will be the next traversed. Lunch will be taken en route.
The afternoon will see our arrival at the Merzouga Sahara Desert. Here, swap for camels, and begin your trek across the sand dunes. Stop to witness the spectacular sunset from a high dune. Then, glide toward the extravagant desert camp, where you will be lured with the sound of Berber drums. Dance around the fire and under the bright starry sky. Dinner and an overnight stay will take place at the camp.
Early morning wake up to watch the sun rise in the desert - an amazing sight! Then you will have free time to enjoy a hearty Moroccan breakfast cooked for you. Afterwards, you'll go back to Merzouga either on camelback or in the camp's 4 x 4, where your driver waits at the door. Then, we go to Rissani, a famous traditional marketplace, called a souk. We march on through Alnif and continue down the Draa Valley, eventually reaching Ouarzazate. The trip involves crossing the Tizi-n-Tichka pass first before proceeding to Marrakech. The three-day desert adventure stretches until a drop-off at the hotel's doorstep in Marrakech, that is, into your riad.
