Morocco Adventure: 6-Day Itinerary Starting from Casablanca to Marrakech
This exciting excursion, over 6 days and 5 nights, covers some of Morocco’s most glamorous sights. The adventure begins in Casablanca, the most active and lively metropolis in Morocco time when an unforgettable exploration takes place in the city.
The itinerary includes explorations that comprise visiting significant historical sites such as the ruins of Volubilis and Meknes, which once served as the capital of the Ismailis. Next, we journey toward Fes, the cultural capital of Morocco, as well as the picturesque town of Ifrane, likened to the “Switzerland of Morocco”. Other visits included in our tour southward are the cedar forests, the city of Midelt, and, of course, the beautiful Ziz Valley. Travel south as far as the old market town of Rissani and Erfoud, which is famous for its fossil deposits.
Once more, the adventure takes us into the magical Sahara Desert of Merzouga. Enjoy a very mirage of camel trek and a luxurious overnight stay at the desert camp. Enjoy the exquisite Saharan sunsets and sunrises. It features breakers for the visit to the magnificent Todra and Dades Gorges and the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. The second last act of this magnificent Moroccan adventure will take you through a two-hour trek through the picturesque High Atlas mountain range and Tizi-n-Tichka pass.
Once you arrive at the airport, harbor, or hotel, we will greet you to start the adventure. Casablanca-Morocco’s most economically productive and largest city-welcomes you. The first stop is the incredible Hassan II Mosque, the largest mosque in the country, lavishly located on a promontory overlooking the Atlantic. Following this architectural wonder, we will give you time for a tasty lunch on your own. Afterward, we will dive into the heart of the city, including the beautiful Casablanca Corniche. After that, we check into the hotel for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, we depart from Casablanca toward Volubilis to see the fascinating ruins of the Roman Empire. This site is unusually intact and has been awarded World Heritage status by UNESCO. Here, you will find many beautiful mosaics, ancient columns, and graceful archways to explore. After the ruins, it is about a 30 km ride to Meknes. Meknes used to be the Ismaili capital and is one of the famous imperial cities. In Meknes, we will visit Bab Al-Mansour, the Sahrij Souani basin, the Royal stables, and the granary. Our tour in Meknes will end with a visit to the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum. Going onwards to Fez, where we will overnight in a Riad.
The day is reserved for a local expert who will take you to see the renowned sites of Fes. Fes remains one of Morocco’s imperial cities and cultural and spiritual heart. Our visit starts at the impressive gate of the Royal Palace. We then make our way into the well-preserved medieval Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Entering through the famous Blue Gate or Bab Boujloud, the most important entry point into the old Medina with winding alleyways and narrow streets, we will take a stroll through the Medina and visit Medrasa Bouanania, the beautiful Najjarine fountain, the famous Tanneries, and lastly, the Quaraouin mosque and university, the oldest university in the world.
We shall end this Medina experience in the Jewish quarter, or the Mellah. In the late afternoon, we shall go to an old fort and enjoy a breathtaking view overlooking the Medina and the city of Fes, completing the day at your Riad.
After breakfast, we will drive south via Imouzzer to Ifrane, known for its cold weather, snow, and timber-style architecture. It truly deserves to be called the “Switzerland of Morocco.” From here, we go onward to the cedar forest, the habitat of Barbary macaques, where you can feed them while you stroll through the forest.
After that, we headed to Midelt for a lazy lunch. Then we will proceed on to Merzouga via Tizi-n-Tilghmt Pass and along the Ziz valley. There will be some brief stops to enjoy the scenic viewpoints. Later in the afternoon, we will arrive in the Sahara Desert at Merzouga. At this point, it’s time for a camel ride through the sands. We’ll then pause for a moment at a tall dune to watch the sunset.
Afterward, we will head towards the desert camp, where you get to enjoy Berber drumming and dancing around a campfire beneath the great sky full of stars. Dinner and overnight stay will be at the camp.
Nothing quite captures the beauty of sunrise across the dunes like rising before the dawn and enjoying an early breakfast. After breakfast, you will ride camels back to Merzouga, where your driver will be waiting to take you on to Rissani, the former capital of Tafilalet, then on to the desert, to the market at Rissani.
Rissani is still a vibrant market town and was the former capital of Tafilalet after walking through Rissani’s souk. The road continues toward Erfoud. Here, we will visit a workshop devoted to fossils and marble. Then, our course will continue through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, leading us on to Todra Gorges.
The river Todra cut this high canyon with red cliffs running through the mountains. It is a perfect challenge for rock climbers. Spend some time exploring the gorges and appreciating the beauty around you. Lunch at a restaurant. Then, we drive past Boumalne Dades to Dades Valley. There will be significant stops at the “monkey fingers” rock formation and to relish the surroundings of the Dades Valley. You will have dinner and then spend the night in a hotel.
Rouse up before dawn because this is essentially the best time to witness the scenery when the sunrise turns everything into a miraculous display over the desert landscape. Have breakfast afterwards. You will then ride camels back to Merzouga, where your driver will be waiting at that point for transport out to camp and on to Rissani, the former capital of Tafilalet.
All part of going to the desert with the market at Rissani, which is still a very active market town and was formerly the capital of Tafilalet, after walking through Rissani’s souk. The road takes over towards Erfoud. Here, we will be visiting a workshop dedicated to fossils and marble. Our journey will then continue through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad onto the Todra Gorges. The river Todra has carved this high canyon with red cliffs running between the mountains; for rock climbers, this place is perfect to test their skill.
Take time to discover the gorges and enjoy the beauty around them. Lunch will be at a restaurant. Then we go to the Dades Valley through Boumalne Dades. There will be important stops at the “monkey fingers” rock formation and also to appreciate the views of the Dades Valley landscape. In the end, you’ll have dinner and spend the night in a hotel.
Next, we go towards Kalaa Magouna, where the Rose Valley is waiting for us with the Rose Festival held every May. Local vendors display their products made from roses. After that, we shall be visiting the Skoura palm oasis. Afterward, we go to Ouarzazate, where we shall visit some of the film studios that were used as the backdrop of many known movies. From there, we head towards the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, and this fortified village has been inscribed as a World Heritage by UNESCO.
It has featured in many acclaimed movies, including Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy, among others, as well as in series like Game of Thrones. After that, we will continue traveling to Marrakech. The passage on this trip will traverse Tizi-N-Tichka and then through the High Atlas Mountains. Regular breaks are to be included for midday meals and photo shoots at interesting points. On arrival in Marrakech, we will arrange for your transport to the airport or your accommodation. This ends your 6-day Moroccan tour.
