Itinerary
Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Cedars forest- Midelt – Ziz valley – Merzouga Sahara
Your 2-day desert tour from Fez to Marrakech begins with an early pick-up from the airport or your accommodation in Fez. From there, we will head south via Imouzzer to Ifrane, famous for its cold weather, snow, and stunning architecture reminiscent of a mountain village, earning it the nickname “the Switzerland of Morocco.” Then we will go to the cedar forest, home to Barbary macaques. Finally, we will stop in Midelt for lunch. Afterwards, the road will take us to the edge of the Sahara Desert, which we will cross via Tizi n’Talghmt and along the Ziz River.
By the afternoon, we attack the Sahara desert area around Merzouga. At this stage of the adventure, you will mount a camel to cross the sea of sand: we shall take a break for you to experience sunset from the top of a high dune. From there, you will proceed to the desert camp, where you will join the rhythms of Berber drumming, dancing around the bonfire under the grand, star-flecked heaven. Dinner and an overnight stay are organized at the very camp.
Day 2: Merzouga Sahara Desert – Todra Gorges – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech
It is rewarding to wake up early to enjoy a beautiful sunrise over the desert scenery. Afterward, have breakfast and continue by 4×4 back to Merzouga, where the driver will be waiting for us. We will then leave the desert to go west, crossing the palm oases of Touroug and Tinjdad to reach the Todra Gorges. The Todra River, over eons, carved a beautiful canyon in the mountains, resulting in high cliffs with reddish coloration. On our way to Ouarzazate, the road goes past many Kasbahs and date-palm groves, where a lunch stop is planned.
The drive from Ouarzazate towards Marrakesh leads us first through the famed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. A brief stop will be made in this historic fortified settlement, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This Kasbah is very popular for shooting many movies; *Gladiator*, *Alexander*, and *The Mummy*, to name a few, but it is also a set for many TV series, including *Game of Thrones*. Tizi-N-Tichka pass will then take us across the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakesh, where we will transfer you to the airport or to your accommodation. This concludes the two-day trip from Fes to Marrakech.
Your Tour ends in Marrakesh. If your travel plans include a return trip to Fes, consider the option: “2 Days from Fes to Merzouga.”
